Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport to a warm welcome from your chauffeur guide who will transfer you to Negombo, just six kilometres away.

Depending on your arrival time, you could rest and recuperate at the hotel or explore the city’s fishing village for its fresh exotic seafood, and the colonial Dutch Fort to observe the bustling seaside town and its dwellers as they go about their busy daily lives. Alternatively, simply lounge at the beach and enjoy some cold beverages and a special gourmet feast of a complimentary mixed seafood platter.

After an early breakfast, travel to the ancient city of Anuradhapura to visit the famed “Atamasthana” (Eight sacred sites) – Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruvanvelisaya, Thuparamaya, Jethawanaramaya, Abhayagiri Dagoba, Mirisaveti Stupa, Lankaramaya, and Lovamahapaya.

After lunch, visit many other ancient sites such as the royal palaces, gardens, and bathing ponds – beautiful examples of ancient engineering and artistry.

Alternatively, head back to the hotel where you can relax by the pool, or treat yourself to an Ayurveda spa treatment.

Breakfast at the hotel, and transfer to the Polonnaruwa cultural site.

Visit the beautiful forested Polonnaruwa archaeological park, ancient Sri Lanka’s second capital, and its palaces, temples, tombs, and stupas, each with its own historical significance and mystique.

A visit to the Gal Viharaya or ‘Rock Temple’ to see the 12^th century rock carvings of the Buddha and caves is also recommended.

From here travel to Sigiriya to climb up the world famous UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and be amazed at the ruins of the royal palace of King Kassapa.

Back at the hotel spend some time at leisure by the pool, or as an option you could also try out an elephant safari at either Minneriya or Kaudulla before sunset, or visit the village of Hiriwaduna and experience its people and their hospitality, along with boat and cart rides through its natural beauty.

Transfer to Kandy via Dambulla after breakfast at the hotel.

In Dambulla, visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dambulla Golden Temple, with its beautifully preserved examples of Buddhist art and sculpture within its extensive gold gilded cave complex.

In transit to Kandy, stop at Matale for a walk through one of Sri Lanka’s famous spice gardens, home to the worlds’ highest quality cinnamon, cloves, cardamoms, pepper and other famous exotic spices.

On arrival in Kandy take a city tour after lunch and visit the fruit and vegetable markets, gem museums and curio shops, or take a stroll around the picturesque Kandy Lake. Views of the city from the popular Upper Lake Drive are especially nice.

In the late afternoon be entertained by a colourful cultural music and dance performance before visiting the sacred Temple of the Tooth to pay your respects.

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the airport via the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and get up close with the orphaned and disabled elephants, rehabilitated and cared for at the site. Get there early to see the baby elephants bottle fed with milk, and then bathed in the Mahaweli River.
